Overview

Advancing coordinated, patient-centered cancer treatment

A true destination for cancer care on the Johns Hopkins Hospital campus brings previously dispersed services into one coordinated, patient-centered facility. The facility houses medical oncology consultations, multidisciplinary clinics, an advanced imaging center, and a dedicated Cancer Diagnostic and Treatment Planning Center. Designed to welcome 60–80 new patients weekly and more than 200 daily overall, the building strengthens access to team-based precision medicine and expands opportunities for clinical trials. Guided by patient and family input, bright natural light, panoramic city views, and calming interior finishes create an uplifting environment, while wax- and carpet-free materials support safety for immunocompromised patients. Positioned at a prominent campus gateway, the facility enhances arrival clarity and showcases Johns Hopkins Medicine’s commitment to innovation in cancer care. This project was designed in partnership with Ayers Saint Gross.

Transforming access and experience

By consolidating cancer services that were previously spread across the campus, the Skip Viragh Building creates a true one-stop destination for coordinated oncology care. Patients benefit from streamlined diagnostic pathways, integrated treatment planning, and easier access to multidisciplinary expertise. Purposefully designed spaces—including private infusion rooms, family-centered areas, and bright, restorative environments—enhance comfort for an immunocompromised population. The facility now supports 60–80 new patients each week and more than 200 daily visits, strengthening both operational efficiency and patient experience.
