OB programs must compete on experience

Labor and delivery spaces are often a family’s first interaction with a health system—and they have options. Our designs help clients strengthen market position by pairing warm, family-centered amenities with the clinical sophistication needed for any outcome. Private rooms, thoughtful acoustics, overnight accommodations, birthing tubs, and supportive antepartum areas all contribute to a more welcoming experience.

At the same time, we plan for essential clinical realities: increased maternal acuity, multiple births, and the need for seamless access to C-section suites. Together, these elements help hospitals build trust and retain patients within their communities.

SUPPORT

Designing NICU and mother-baby environments

NICU and mother-baby spaces must balance emotional support with high-acuity care. Our approach prioritizes privacy, intuitive planning, and long-term comfort for families whose stays may extend for weeks. We design environments that help stabilize and grow vulnerable infants, support complex care needs, and maintain proximity to delivery areas for rapid response.

Family zones, daylight access, and quiet rooms help reduce stress while giving parents a meaningful role in the care process. Each layout anticipates clinical workflows, technology integration, and the need for compassionate, uninterrupted bonding between parents and their newborns.

Pediatric spaces that promote play and healing

Children experience healthcare differently, and the spaces that support them must reflect that. We design pediatric environments that are bright, immersive, and adaptable to ages ranging from infants to teens. Positive distraction—through color, art, virtual engagement, and interactive installations—helps ease anxiety and make long stays more manageable.

Families and siblings also need thoughtful support, from dedicated play areas to outdoor spaces and quiet rooms. Technology plays a major role, enabling learning, connection, and exploration, as seen in pediatric environments where children interact virtually with institutions like the Smithsonian or NASA. These elements help transform care settings into places of resilience and discovery.
