We’re excited to share that Frederick Health Hospital is planning a major upgrade to its birth facilities — and we’re inviting our community to join us on the journey.

What’s Changing

Over the next few months, five brand-new labor and delivery rooms will be added to the existing unit, with completion expected in early 2026. These rooms are part of a broader investment in building a modern, comfortable environment for families and newborns.

Currently, the Birth Place unit cares for more than 2,400 families each year.  To better accommodate this growing demand, the expansion will add to the existing nine labor & delivery rooms and 27 family-center rooms.

What the New Rooms Feature

  • State-of-the‐art equipment and modern technology, designed with input from our labor & delivery team.
  • One room will include a labor tub (for pain relief, not birthing) to offer a soothing, relaxing option during labor.
  • An increase in wireless fetal monitor units to give patients more flexible monitoring options.
  • Plus, a refresh of our existing patient rooms — enhanced layouts, calming color palettes, modern finishes — to support a comfortable, welcoming experience for growing families.

Why It Matters

Frederick County is currently the fastest-growing county in Maryland, and with this growth comes a heightened need for accessible, family-centered care. The expansion and refresh are designed to reduce wait times for scheduled inductions and to ensure the community has access to high-quality care during one of life’s most important moments.

What’s Next

Following the labor and delivery expansion and room refresh, the next phase will involve a refresh of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), continuing our commitment to comprehensive maternity and newborn care.
