Luminis Health is preparing to break ground on a long-anticipated women’s health pavilion at Doctors Community Medical Center in Lanham, with construction targeted to begin in April. The project will introduce obstetrics services to the hospital for the first time, expanding care to include labor, delivery, and postpartum services as part of a broader effort to enhance community-based healthcare in Prince George’s County.

The $239 million development comes amid financial pressures facing hospitals nationwide, including funding gaps and rising construction costs. Once operational, the facility could begin serving patients in early 2029, though timelines have shifted slightly due to budget adjustments and redesign efforts.

Beyond the new pavilion, the project includes infrastructure upgrades and renovations to existing hospital spaces to accommodate increased patient demand. The women’s health pavilion is expected to handle up to 2,000 deliveries annually over time, reinforcing Luminis Health’s goal of becoming a more comprehensive regional provider. The project team includes Wilmot Sanz as architect and Hensel Phelps as general contractor, highlighting a major investment in both healthcare access and long-term community growth.
