“Does that detail look right to you?”
“Is that the most sustainable material we can offer?”
“How can we make this process more efficient?”
These are just a few of the thoughtful questions Paul Quast, AIA, CDT, LEED AP BD+C, brings to every conversation. This Fall, we proudly welcomed Paul to Wilmot Sanz as a Senior Architect, strengthening our firm’s technical design leadership and sharpening our ability to deliver projects that are as precise as they are inspiring.
Since joining the team, Paul’s expertise has already made an impact—both in the quality of our documentation and in the confidence our clients feel knowing every line, layer, and material choice has been considered with care.
A graduate of The Catholic University of America, Paul discovered early in his career that his greatest strength lay in the details—the critical, often unseen layers that transform design vision into technical performance. Aligning himself with project managers who valued precision, he honed his skills in constructability, coordination, and sustainable design integration across complex healthcare environments.
As a licensed architect, LEED Accredited Professional, and Certified Construction Document Technologist (CDT), Paul brings a balanced approach that bridges design intent with real-world execution. His technical insight helps project teams foresee challenges, mitigate risks, and deliver solutions that uphold the highest standards of quality and sustainability.
“Healthcare forms are driven by content and space,” Paul explains. “The function presents a unique set of challenges—and it’s those challenges that then shape and define the exterior design.”
In every project, Paul begins by asking the right questions. From the first sketch, he focuses on identifying technical, code, and quality challenges—often long before they arise in documentation or construction. His pragmatic perspective ensures the team maintains creative freedom while staying grounded in feasibility.
This proactive mindset doesn’t just enhance coordination—it saves time, cost, and resources for clients. By anticipating and resolving technical issues early, Paul enables smoother workflows and more efficient design development, helping clients achieve both operational and aesthetic excellence.
Paul’s commitment extends beyond his projects—he’s deeply invested in mentorship and continuing education. Passionate about developing the next generation of architects, he advocates for quality control (QC) as an integral part of the design process, not an afterthought.
“Quality control starts on day one,” he emphasizes. “It’s about building time and attention into every phase of design to ensure we’re delivering the best possible product for our clients and end users.”
At Wilmot Sanz, this philosophy aligns seamlessly with our culture of collaboration, technical rigor, and learning. Paul’s presence reinforces our dedication to creating healthcare environments that balance innovation with integrity—spaces that perform beautifully and stand the test of time.
With a background shaped by both technical mastery and a personal connection to healthcare—his mother a retired nurse—Paul approaches every project with empathy for the people who occupy the spaces we design. He sees each detail as an opportunity to support better patient outcomes, smoother staff workflows, and more resilient facilities.
Welcome to the team, Paul—your precision, curiosity, and collaborative spirit are already making a difference.
