What do oil painting, study abroad, retirement home experience, and The Sims have in common? At Wilmot Sanz, they’re all part of the perspectives shaping this summer’s intern class. Throughout their internships, these students will have the chance to explore the business and design side of healthcare architecture and interiors through seminars with experts from across the firm. They’ll also benefit from sessions on networking and preparing job application materials – and plenty of office coffee, sodas, and seltzers. Meet Ellie, Cilyn, Julia, Tommy, and Sarah!

Major: Architecture, Class of 2029
Driven by her personal experience working in a retirement home and visiting family during hospital stays, Ellie is looking forward to joining Wilmot Sanz in designing spaces that bring comfort during difficult times. This summer she hopes to build upon her classroom architecture training through working in a real office, learning new software, and developing her design skills. In her free time, Ellie enjoys creating oil paintings of landscapes and reading – this summer she’s reading Pride and Prejudice for the first time!

Cilyn calls her entry into architecture a ‘shot in the dark’. When she was applying for college at the start of her senior year of high school, she wanted to do something with art but also understood the value of her skills in STEM. Since then, through internships, classwork, and leadership in her studio and NOMAS (National Organization of Minority Architecture Students at Virginia Tech), she has developed a broad range of experience that she now brings to our team. When she found Wilmot Sanz at a Virginia Tech career fair, she realized designing healthcare spaces offered a set of unique challenges that would help her grow as a designer while creating a positive impact. Outside of the office she loves spending time outdoors and is gearing up to spend the fall studying abroad.

After enjoying the collaborative environment in the office and the variety of projects she worked on last summer, Julia is excited to return to Wilmot Sanz for summer 2026. She enjoys creating patient-focused environments that prioritize comfort and care. Splitting her time between our architecture and interior design teams, Julia is especially interested in how specialists across the firm work together to advance the patient experience and improve operations. Outside of the office, she enjoys painting and drawing (especially portraiture), as well as playing video games and spending time with friends.

School: William & Mary
Major: Hispanic Studies, Class of 2027
Tommy joins us as our Marketing and Communications Intern. He says he especially enjoys the process of researching and understanding the audience he’s marketing to – something supported by his studies in Hispanic Studies and English. Tommy enjoys travelling (he’s just wrapped up a semester abroad in Seville, Spain!), going to concerts, and trying out new recipes. He is looking forward to spending the summer learning more about healthcare design and AEC marketing.

School: Radford University
Major: Interior Design, Class of 2027
Sarah grew up rearranging the rooms in her house to create better function and flow, and some of her favorite video games are Animal Crossing, Minecraft, and The Sims. It’s no surprise she now joins us as an Interior Design Intern. Sarah views healthcare design as an excellent way to learn about design overall, because it demands designers pay attention to detail – every choice can impact patient comfort and caregiver satisfaction. In her first few days in our office, Sarah appreciated the feedback and support she’s been given by the Wilmot Sanz team, especially with learning healthcare design acronyms and jargon. Outside of the office, you can find her practicing yoga or playing board games with friends and family.
We’re excited to welcome the creativity, energy, and new perspectives these interns will bring to our office this summer. Welcome to the team, Ellie, Cilyn, Julia, Tommy, and Sarah!
